Are you guilty?

1 Corinthians 5:1 – 13

I had a conversation with a few people who read the blog on yesterday entitled “Facebook…what is going on with us?” , it excited me that other people are reading the blogs, because I use to think why doesn’t anyone respond? The people told me today that how can they respond to something that doesn’t need a response. (I don’t know if that is good or bad)

Anyway, I had the discussion today and I came to the conclusion through my conversation that we as a Body of Believers might be guilty of allowing things to take place in the Body of Christ. You know the Scripture 1 Corinthians 5:1 – 13? (If you don’t go grab your Sword and check it out)

Now that you have read it, how did it make you feel? Well it kind of tripped me out!

I see that Paul was talking to the Corinthians and was talking to them about sin among the believers, that apparently they were just letting go.  What was interesting to me is that Paul wasn’t even there in Corinth according to verse 1. The information came to him. We need to understand that unaddressed sin will find it’s way to other people and places that have nothing to do with it. (I don’t want to touch that)

I want us to see that verses 11 – 13, are verses that we really need to get serious about. We can’t keep allowing our brothers and sisters who profess Jesus as Lord and Savior to keep on living as though He doesn’t exist. We are told to address those who:

  •  Are fornicators – Having unlawful sexual intercourse.
  •  Covetous – Wanting more, greedy. (Not content with what they have, but always wanting more)
  •  Idolater – Worshipping other things or people that is not God. (This includes self - spend more time on you, want other people to worship you)
  •  Railer – Verbally abusive person
  •  Drunkard – One who get’s drunk or intoxicated
  •  Extortioner – Swindler (to obtain by fraud or deceit) – The brother or sister who takes from someone whether money or sex by making someone believe you are someone that you are not! (You are a fraud)

Paul tells us not to even eat with people like that, who are professing to be a part of the Body of Christ!

Do you know it becomes our  job to hold each other accountable for our actions, even if it means we have to cut some people off. Could it be, that because we don’t address our brothers and sisters of the things that they are involved in, that they stay in it as though nothing is wrong?

It is time for us to bring our sisters and brothers back into focus of the things that God has called them to do and the life He has called for them to live!

Galatians 6:1 says: “Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. “

The word “restore” means to repair. When someone is caught in a sin – the more mature Christians should try to repair the brother or sister – talk with them, share lovingly with them, encourage them to seek help and seek God. That is always our first course.

We are called to restore from the sin, not celebrate the sin!

So if you know someone who  is “caught up” in sin, then restore them! But if you have a brother or sister who is “embracing” sin, then we have got to let them go! It is in our loosing them, that God can now get their attention.

It’s when the are alone and with God, that they will come into the knowledge that they NEED Him!

P.S. Tell me what you think
